The “Edge” spec will tell you about how sharp a blade is. This info is provided to give you a good idea of the product being presented, the one you receive may vary from the specific one we took measurements of. Please note: Due to the hand made nature of these items, all specs should be considered as approximates. A very high POB will result in a sword that feels heavier than it actually is and is difficult to wield. In general, a low POB results in good point control well suited to a thrusting blade, while a higher POB adds impact to a cleaving blade. A POB of 3”- 5” usually results in a well balanced sword, but does depend on the type of sword. In practice however, there are many reasons why you may not want this for a particular sword. In theory a sword with a POB of 0” is perfectly balanced. A number of 0” would balance exactly at the guard, while a negative number will have a POB in the hilt itself. It refers to the point on the blade where the sword achieves a perfect balance. stands for Point Of Balance, this is measured in inches from the hilt down the blade. It is also common for the sword to be configured for a single bamboo mekugi peg to be used instead of two. Also, the Menuki may not match what is pictured as it is common for the manufacturer to use different menuki for different production runs. Please Note: It is common for the lacquer finish of the scabbards to have minor cosmetic blemishing. The katana comes with a blue cloth sword bag. The saya scabbard is wood, coated in glossy black lacquer with a matching woven black silk sageo. A woven black silk tsuka-ito is tightly wrapped over the same, with a pair dragon menuki beneath. The tsuka grip is of wood, covered in rayskin same. The blade is solidly mounted into its tsuka with bamboo mekugi, whose removal allows for maintenance disassembly or customization if desired. The blade is machine polished, with the final polishing being done by hand. The three steels are folded 8-12 times before being differentially heat-treated with clay, the process by which the blade receives its wave-like hamon of white-steel.These folding processes were traditionally done to minimize impurities in steel (the initial quality being lesser than modern steel) and to give it strength and flexibility with a mixture of different steels with these properties. This folding process creates a Tamehagane-like Hada pattern upon the blade with the appearance of wood grain. Made by Dynasty Forge, this wave Katana is made from three high carbon steels of 1095, 10 folded together into a single blade. Whether they symbolize an inner harmony or represent the turbulence of the tsunami is in the eyes of the wielder. This will ship in the Plano "Protector" model 1500 double rifle case shown (a $30 value) and includes the blue cloth sword bag. The blade is 31 1/2" and it has a 12" tsuka. I did shine up the blade with some Noxon 7 metal polish and gave it a coat of Renaissance wax. There are some faint scratches here and there on the blade and there is a small dent in the paint on the saya (no chip though). The blade is straight, the edge is perfect and it has a beautiful hamon. Well now I want to upgrade my road bike and decided I don't need two katanas that don't get used, so the DF is up for sale. It just stands in the corner of my den with my Bugei Dragonfly katana. Rubem said he bought it new and never cut with it either. I got this katana about 3 months ago from Rubem Bastos here on the forums and have not cut anything with it.
